Coventry Double Glazing
Local Man saves £600 on
Coventry Double Glazing.
Mr Suliman pictured above right with U-fit Employee Shad was delighted to save £600 on a UPVC door.He also got a FREE tape measure when he came in with the advert from the Coventry Newspaper the Coventry Times.
Mr Sulliman said our DIY Door price was £600 cheaper than two fitted door prices he got from a Coventry Double glazing company.
U-fit MD John Armstrong says 'Its great to see the genuine sati....

Double Glazing prices what a minefield! The UK Double glazing Industry which I’m proud to have been part of for nearly 25 years has very often, in fact almost always gotten a bad press. The perception seems to be that because Double glazing windows are made from ‘plastic’ and that carrier bag are to. It must therefore follow that they should cost roughly the same. And if some one pays say £5000 to have their house fitted with Double glazed windows they paid through the no....

When you are young and I mean young as an 18 year old boy,UPVC windows hold very little interest, actually none.My first introduction to UPVC windows was by Sid who was the showroom manager at a firm that sold UPVC windows. That was back in the year 1986 so over 25 years ago.
I met Knew Sid from selling his firm advertising space in the newspaper I worked for.Every week I'd go and visit and Sid who would by that time on a Friday afternoon be very merry and red faced.I'd sit his in his office, g....

DIY Double Glazing has probably been around as long as Double glazing has.I can remember my first Double Glazing boss complaining to me back in 1990.
'We need to try and get more DIY Double glazing business the margins are great'
This resulted in me towing a caravan that had been converted into a mobile DIY double glazing showroom.Behind a V6 Granada. It was great we'd drive around housing estates with two other guys, one with a loud hailer shouting out DIY door prices etc.It ended late on....

Coventry Doors was an idea I had 16 years ago.I had just moved to Coventry and had this idea of just fabricating Doors only. The reason was using my logic was that it was a lot easier to fabricate Coventry Doors than fabricating windows as well.
So I named my company Door express, the idea was simple I used my limited start up capital to invest in the machinery to manufacture doors only.We used to install a Coventry Door for £299.We even had a catchy freephone number, 0500 000 299.I wished I'd....

I did discuss the subject of cheap UPVC windows last month, but that was more to do with prices and perception. And nothing to do with cheap. The irony is that once upon a time you could buy cheap UPVC windows. In this definition of cheap I mean not very good windows ie they were a bit crappy let me give you an example.
About 25 years a go my then boss came up to with a press cutting from the Daily Mail newspaper waving at me he said...
'Just look at these cheap UPVC windows, how can they sel....

I have a sister inlaw who had double glazing fitted to her house in 1988.Now personally I do like to see very early examples of UPVC Double glazing, especially UPVC Doors.Peg that's my sister inlaw's name has gone in and out of that UPVC Door for over 20 years and never had any bother from it.Other than the fact that it uses a kind of UPVC door lock, that today would be virtually illegal to fit.It has just two small locking points on the UPVC Door more suited to a balcony door lock.

Recently, I was talking with a friend in the double glazing Industry. He runs a upvc window manufacturing business supplying the trade upvc window markets. His double glazing prices are a fair bit higher than the ones on this site.
He nearly always complains that my company sells upvc windows too cheaply, and that in general cheap upvc windows aren't any good.As I've known him for a good few years I decided to take him to task on this occasion.Firstly lets look at his arguments.
1) German up....

As you are aware everything we buy, virtually with out exception has increased in price in the last 12 months or so.Due to energy, fuel costs and massive increases in raw materials.Coupled with massive internal demand from China, India and developing economies, has meant that the price of double glazing will increase to reflect these facts.
We have had some suppliers turn up with demands for 14% price increases. There main concern is that they may not even be able to secure stock, such ....

Today I witnessed something in double glazing that quiet literally stunned me and made my bloody furious.Recently we changed the firm who takes away our scrap upvc offcuts. The new company is run by a young Asian lad who came along and offered us a better price than our current supplier. His is a new business and he went the extra mile to give us great service and some useful other benefits.
Today the old supplier( I will not name them) turned up and asked why we weren't using them any more.I ....

Today we had our first Window energy rating(WER) audit for our DIY upvc windows. Its over a year since we gained certification for both our shield upvc window and synerjy upvc window.
I was at first rather sceptical about the whole WER process. But since then it I have mellowed it allows you the customer to compare upvc window quotes very easily.By comparing the energy rating of each upvc window.Previously it was very difficult to compare upvc window efficiencies as the the amount of glass co....

Yes 20% Vat is here on DIY upvc windows.I'm happy about this no I'm bloody not.I remember In 1990 (down memory lane again). My old boss now passed on telling me the year they introduced VAT on upvc diy double glazing
" If you paid before April 4th that year it was 15% cheaper" He said glowing
"We were stacked out with work I bought the BMW that year" It was a Red M5 that Jim drove like a loon and at the age of 64.A great car we had many fast appointments in that.
So there you have it. To....

When I first started in double glazing industry the only colour upvc window you could buy was white. When woodgrain mahogany profile came out it people were amazed that it could be done.We manufacture black on black or black on white upvc windows in A energy rating or C energy rating. The black on black colour is a woodgrain foil effect that is applied to both sides of a brown upvc profile.Black on white is applied to a white profile. Both profiles are synerjy so are fully featured.
The black up....

We have took an order for some black on white upvc windows, actually an apartment block full in Mallorca. The customer specified our A rated window which seems odd as they don't have the winter temperatures we have had recently. But the high insulation value is needed to reduce the air conditioning requirement in the block. We had to deal with a Spanish architect.(I know your thinking of Fawlty Towers) but she was a pleasure to deal with and sorted out all the translations for us.The windows are ge....

It's been a good week in double glazing, well it felt like a good week to me.I got a few new trade customers onboard and one of them has been trading since 1937.I got to meet three generations of the same family all working in the same window firm. The oldest took me to one side in the factory and showed me in his hand 4 window screws he'd picked off the floor. His words were "many a mickle makes a muckle" this translates to "pennies maketh pounds" I ag....

I had a meeting today, yes really, with our bank manager and it was the normal how are you doing? can we sell you anything? money has never been cheaper to borrow etc...However he went onto say that he and his bank thought next year 2011 would be a year of price rises.
he cited energy prices, raw materials and of course in January vat will be going up from 17.5% now to 20% although felt it unlikely for interest rates to rise what a relief. It got me thinking what prices we may have and if it's poss....

These days it seems to me that most websites insist on you leaving your personal details before they'll give you a price I don't know about you but when I visit a site I'm not going there for any other reason to find out about the service or product and ideally how much it's going to cost.
Currently if you would like a
window quote on our site you can do so without leaving your personal details which is great if excuse the pun "your window shopping!" .You can of course leave you....

It's a tough market out there for any business and upvc window companies are not excluded.... except one that is.Check out the youtube clip above. When the credit crunch started we decided to invest in new products to offer our customers.
Setting up this website was part of that process when you can get a free window quote without having to leave your details. In addition we extended our product range to include coloured upvc windows not only in the normal colours like mahogany woodgrain bu....

I had a visit today from an elderly friend I think his 78 so I'm allowed to call him "old boy" he wanted a price for 4 new upvc replacement windows. He stretched out his arms and said there about this size and then ummed and a'rred a bit, I said I come round and give him a window quote.

From October 2010 all replacement upvc windows must have a WER (window energy rating) of C or above. What does this mean to you?,as you are probably aware white goods(washing machines, fridges etc) come with an energy rating A to G, A is the most efficent in terms of the amount of energy the product uses.If you would like a price for an energy window now please go to our free window quote.
UPVC replacement windows now to have a energy rating label which allows you to compare any upvc window w....

Around about 20 years ago upvc replacement windows were in the main white in colour but like most things more choice became available. The first woodgrain upvc window I ever saw was in 1990 at it was called mahogany woodgrain which we still offer as a choice today.
The woodgrain effect is actually a thermo plastic film that is applied to the surface of the window profile at the end of the extrusion process. The foil we use is a German foil called Renolit and comes with a 10 year guarantee again....

A quick answer is that I don't know! but I'll try to help guide you in selecting the right upvc window company.Choosing a firm to buy your replacement upvc windows from is difficult let me explain with this example.
When I was away on holiday recently we decided to go to a restaurant the main street was full of restaurants advertising high prices and they were packed with tourists. We walked a bit up into the side streets and found a small place also packed with customers the difference was the....

UPVC windows are funny awkward things to deliver they can be quiet big in two dimensions but only 70mm wide in the outerframe. Then you have the sealed units a double glazed sealed unit weighs 1 sq/mtr weighs 20kgs which means 15 units could weigh a fair bit.All the upvc windows we manufacture in Coventry are delivered on our own transport however we do use TNT to deliver our UPVC doors see our sister site www.doorexpress.com for a free door quote. As its Friday afternoon I though I'd take a walk ....

Back in 1990 upvc windows were still in there infancy at that time I was working as a rep for Spectus systems who extruded upvc profile which window fabricators then made into finished upvc windows.
Some of the early upvc systems were very bulky and this made the window look hideous The key was for upvc windows to try and replicate the slim sightlines of the then dominant aluminium windows.Spectus had a slim upvc sash called SW14 if I remember correctly this window casement was very slim and ....

When I started in the double glazing industry in 1990 everyone in the trade called double glazed windows by there proper name uPVC windows.uPVC is an acronym of unplasticised poly vinyl chloride which is a bit of a mouthful. The unplasticised part means it is not soft or pliable like a normal plastic, although some plasticiser is used in the extrusion process. However some people refer to them as pvcu windows.
However some wide boys wearing white socks back then called them plastic windows that'....

Buying DIY upvc double glazed windows online is perhaps one of the more obscure products you can buy over the internet.Made to measure DIY upvc double glazed windows is even more esoteric.
we started selling DIY upvc windows on the internet 10 years ago on our orginal website (it looks pretty dated now!) back then we were the only company doing so. In that time we have sold many thousands of upvc windows all over the UK,europe and the world.
Ten years on we have launched our newest w....
